Meet the Artist - Latifa Medjdoub (Laftmonk)

Saturday, 17 October 2026, from 15:00 | OpenArtExchange, Schiedam

To mark the conclusion of Latifa Medjdoub's (Laftmonk) residency at OpenArtExchange, we invite you to a special afternoon dedicated to the artist, her work, and the creative processes behind it.

Offering a glimpse into Medjdoub's artistic world, the afternoon brings together a video installation documenting her working process, an informal conversation with the artist, and an intimate walkthrough of her works. Visitors will have the opportunity to engage directly with Medjdoub, ask questions, and discover the materials, gestures, and ideas that shape her practice.

The event also offers an exclusive first look at Medjdoub's works featured in Entangled, the upcoming duo-solo exhibition bringing together her textile practice with the abstract paintings of Henri Kalama.

An afternoon of discovery, dialogue, and exchange, inviting visitors to encounter the artist and her work from a more personal perspective, accompanied by drinks and bites.

Programme:

- Discover the artist at work through a video installation offering a glimpse into the making of her textile compositions.

- Meet Latifa Medjdoub in an informal setting, with space for questions, reflections, and an open exchange about her artistic practice.

- Join the artist for a personal walkthrough of her works, uncovering the stories, materials, and ideas behind them.

Latifa Medjdoub (Laftmonk)

France/USA, 1973

Latifa Medjdoub, aka Laftmonk, is a French-Algerian multidisciplinary artist working across textile, painting, installation and participatory practice. Her textile works form intricate networks of thread, fibre and rope, exploring connection, interdependence and transformation. These complex structures illustrate how separate elements, identities and histories can meet, influence one another and become part of larger relational structures. Medjdoub's works has been presented internationally across a wide range of museums, art centres and cultural institutions.

Upcoming Exhibition -Entangled

An exhibition exploring the invisible systems of connection and interdependence that shape our emotional, social, and material worlds.
