Duo exhibition "Echoes of nature"
OpenArtExchange presents the duo exhibition, "Echoes of Nature" with works of Sanda Amadou and Yao Metsoko. We warmly invite you to the opening on Saturday, May 10 at 3 PM at OpenArtExchange, Hoogstraat 85 Schiedam. The exhibition will be on view until Saturday June 14, 2025.
At the opening you can listen to the beautiful melancholic, sometimes rousing sounds of the South American Tango played by duo Fortune Strings consisting of Intan Werry (violin) and Boris Oud (guitar), whilst enjoying some bites and drinks and of course some fascinating African contemporary art.
Echoes of Nature
In Echoes of Nature, OpenArtExchange brings together two established West African artists—Yao Metsoko (Togo/France) and Sanda Amadou (Benin)—whose work resonates with a strong sensitivity to nature, spirituality, and ancestral memory. Through mixed media paintings and installations, they offer poetic reflections on the fragile balance between humans and the natural world.
During their artist residencies at OpenArtExchange in April 2025, Metsoko and Amadou developed new works responding to themes of environmental connection and transformation. Metsoko’s series Correspondences explores the invisible threads that link past and present, the material and the spiritual, often through the metaphor of water. Amadou’s Forbidden Zones draws on the idea of sacred spaces—like protected forests—to reflect on how cultural practices can foster harmony with the natural environment.
The exhibition runs until 14 June 2025. Works will be on view online via our website and on Artsy, with a dedicated viewing room at launch.
