Melanin as Material, Memory, and Presence
Talk “Melanin” brings together a focused selection of contemporary African and diaspora artists whose practices transform material, memory, and lived experience into works of presence. Across painting, sculpture, and ceramics, the exhibition explores how identity is not a fixed image, but a layered process—shaped by movement, resilience, and the stories we carry in our bodies and environments.
In Brussels, the physical installation is echoed online through this online viewing room designed for close looking: surface, texture, scale, and detail matter. You will encounter bold chromatic fields and tactile gestures in painting; sculptural forms that reclaim discarded matter and reframe it as dignity; and ceramic languages that draw from ritual, symbolism, and everyday life. Together, these works resist simplification. They invite attention—quietly, insistently—to what is held, protected, revealed, and shared.
OpenArtExchange presents “Melanin” in collaboration with Talk C.E.C. as an encounter between place and perspective: a platform where collectors and art lovers can engage with the works, request deeper context, and connect directly with the gallery for availability, pricing, and practical guidance.

Through clay and rubber, Déguénon and Kpoho embody the balance between matter and meaning — transforming humble materials into symbols of renewal, reflection, and resilience. Their works invite viewers to sense the invisible dialogue between earth and spirit, where transformation becomes both a creative and spiritual act.
