Finissage House of the Future II - Common Grounds
met live poëzie door Kenny Gomes
We warmly invite you to the festive closing of our exhibition House of the Future II – Common Grounds, on saturday 4th October at 3 pm. This is the final opportunity to experience the works of Souleymane Konaté, Michael Agemo, Feraul Fosso, Habibi Yayé Keita, and Kingsley Ogwara in person.
The afternoon will feature a special live poetry performance by Kenny Gomes, a young spoken word artist from Rotterdam-South. For this occasion, Gomes has drawn inspiration from the themes of House of the Future. What will the world of tomorrow look like? What heritage do we leave for future generations? What truly connects us as people?
Join us for an inspiring mix of art, poetry, and reflection on social cohesion, community, and living together. Drinks and bites will be served.
Kenny Gomes
Kenny Gomes, an emerging spoken word artist rooted in Rotterdam-Zuid, discovered his talent during a Poetry Class masterclass. Kenny crafts texts in which he shares his anxieties and innermost thoughts. As he writes, his strength relies in his vulnerability, offering profound insights into identity, struggle and resilience. His debut in 2016 at an open-mic session led to performances at events such as FLOW TIME and 010SaysItAll. Production company FLOW, led by Y.M.P, supported his full-length autobiographical one-man show Cirkels at Theater Islemunda.
As a cultural entrepreneur, Kenny has established several platforms, including SpeakEasy, Spoken Taboos, and the Jazz Lounge, which strengthen the Rotterdam spoken word scene. The Poëet Club, a dinner show that has served both as an event and the name of his foundation since 2021, contributes to his impact on the arts community.
Recently, Kenny explored the Cape Verdean history of slavery and colonialism, resulting in the theatrical piece Ontketend. In October, he received a Fellowship at Museum Boijmans Van Beuningen for further study.
Kenny’s lasting influence on the Rotterdam spoken word scene stems from his authentic style and keen observations. His success reflects not only artistic talent but also entrepreneurship and dedication to cultural exploration.
