Casca week

Discover Casca Up Close

This April, in celebration of King’s Day, the gallery will present the Casca week, higlighting a selection of works that reflect the artist's distinctive visual language and evolving practice. From 27 April to 9 May, come explore Casca's universe and experience these unique pieces up close.

OpenArtExchange currently holds a collection of more than forty works by Casca, offering a broad overview of his artistic development. Casca Week takes place in the context of OpenArtExchange’s collection rotation and may be the last opportunity to view a selection of these works at the gallery before they return to the artist in Portugal. At this occasion and in celebration of King’s Day, works will be available throughout the week with special offers, with prices ranging from €950 to €3,900.

Casca: A unique visual language

Casca (1976) is a self-taught artist born in Lisbon into a family with Angolan roots. Spending his formative years in northern and later southern Angola, he developed a deep and personal connection to its cultures. Inspired by their spiritual and cultural traditions, he creates works that blend traditional motifs with contemporary forms.

Working across sculpture, painting, and collage, Casca’s vibrant, layered compositions often feature abstracted faces and symbolic patterns. His art reflects everyday life while exploring broader social themes and human realities, drawing both from research and daily observations. Since 2016, Casca has exhibited in Angola, the Netherlands, Germany, and the United Kingdom.

The world of Casca reveals a rich and distinctive visual language, built on careful research, observation, and imagination. For instance, in the Book of Casca series, he demonstrates his conceptual ingenuity, reclaiming historical narratives and highlighting central spiritual figures, while transforming old texts into layered contemporary reflections. His series of portraits, inspired by encounters or everyday scenes, showcase his singular eye, capturing fleeting moments in a striking, unmistakable style. Through this combination of cultural depth, visual innovation, and acute observation, Casca’s work stands out as a unique voice in contemporary art.

The selection will be on view at the gallery and accessible online throughout the week. This is a unique opportunity to experience Casca’s rich visual language up close and engage with the series of works on display, from the Book of Casca to his striking portraits and socially reflective compositions. Whether you are a longtime collector or exploring Casca's work for the first time, this event is the perfect moment to bring a new piece into your collection.
