Exciting news from Benin! Joke Bakker, director of OpenArtExchange, is back for a three-week visit, exploring the local art scene. She’ll be visiting galleries, exhibitions, and studios to reconnect with familiar artists and discover new talents.
Some highlights from Joke’s first week in Benin:
She had a studio visit with Marcel Kpoho in Semi-Poji, near the Nigerian border, where they discussed his work and she picked up new masks for the gallery. Joke also dropped by Bruce Clarke’s mural project at Marina Avenue in Cotonou, where he's creating Africa’s longest street art wall. She also attended the vernissage of "Transmission and Mutation", a duo exhibition by Dmitri Fagbohoun and Tchif Tchiakpe at FinAB in the Palais des Congrès, Cotonou. In addition, she visited Maison Rouge in Cotonou for a group exhibition featuring Syl Loko, Benjamin Deguenon and others.
