Marcel Kpoho (1988) shapes used tires and models them to make masks and sculptures that speak of human beings, in their darkest and most glorious aspects. In his themes he is particularly interested in the environment, the suffering of women, sexism and racism. He hopes to bring those who watch his art to question the future of the planet and the future challenges of humanity.
The sculptures I make are often monumental, sometimes frightening for some people. I want it to mark, to question the people who watch it. Because that’s how we can have a reflection afterwards, that we can have an awareness.
Born in 1988 in Porto-Novo, gifted in drawing since his early childhood, Marcel Kpoho is a self-taught painter and sculptor. His first exhibition dates back to 2012, but it was in 2017 that he abandoned the teaching of mathematics to truly engage in his artistic career.
His art fascinates and questions. He sees his work as a mission and creates tirelessly hoping to bring those who watch his art to question the future of the planet and the future challenges of humanity.
He participates and organizes numerous exhibitions in Benin and collaborates with galleries in France. He sells his works at auction in Europe and is present in private collections in Africa and Europe. In 2021, he received the Francophonie prize from the Loire school in France.
