Intern Marketing & Communication

32 hours a week

OpenArtExchange is an international art center that aims to stimulate and connect non-Western artists with the Western art and culture world. We do this by organizing international residencies and exhibitions (approximately 6 per year) in our gallery of approximately 600 m2 in the museum quarter of Schiedam, participating in national and international art fairs and being active on online platforms.

The support of the participating artists (mostly from African countries and local artists), varies from giving experience and exposure through projects, promoting and selling their artworks from Schiedam, at international art fairs or online, to more long-term career management.

As an intern Marketing & Communication, you help to promote all our activities as an international gallery. This also involves operational activities, such as updating the website, uploading artworks on online platforms and performing common activities in the gallery. You work with and report to the Gallery Manager.

What are you going to do?

  • Thinking along and supporting our online strategy and both the form and the content of the necessary content;
  • Thinking about new possibilities in the field of marketing & communication;
  • Managing various communication channels such as website, art platforms (Artsy, Artnet), social media, Instagram;
  • Drafting and sending of press releases, newsletters, invitations;
  • Supporting the team in daily activities where necessary;
  • In consultation, expanded with tasks aimed at a specific study assignment from the study programme.

Who are you?

We are looking for an energetic and ambitious intern who recognizes her or himself in the following profile:

  • Student in Marketing and / or Communication or similar;
  • You have a special interest in one or more of the following areas: art and culture sector, event marketing, cultural education, new communication opportunities, gallery world, online sales, career management, African artists;
  • Knowledge of or interest in contemporary art is a plus;
  • You are proactive, creative, eager to learn, hospitable and don’t mind working on weekends
  • You can speak and write excellent Dutch and English and preferably also French;
  • Knowledge of WordPress, Illustrator, Photoshop and/or Canva is a plus

You will have the opportunity to gain work experience in the field of communication & marketing within the art sector. You will get to know the dynamics of this sector and get a taste of whether a job in this sector is something for you. You will also have the opportunity to further develop your own skills and competences within a professional environment. We offer an internship allowance of €300 per month.
