Lawrence Kwakye (1972), visual artist / designer, completed the Industrial and General Design Academy, but started to focus on painting at an early stage. Meanwhile, he also experiments with collages, video and photography and enters into dialogue with modern dance. With a mixed Ghanese / Hungarian background, he is fascinated in his work by being able to move between different worlds: inside versus outside, freedom versus bondage, openness versus isolation, Me versus We. In his work he works a lot with jute and fibers with glow-in-the-dark pigments, which on one side provides the necessary structure, but on the other is also flexible and offers different perspectives. Lawrence has participated in various group and solo exhibitions and art fairs in the Netherlands and Luxembourg and recently exhibited in Ghana.
